I’ve been making photographic images for over 40 years and shoot mostly in black and white with an analog camera. I admire what skilled painters can do with light and color, but with photography I’m fascinated by the way tones of gray can so cleanly and dramatically convey the mood of a landscape or subject. Lighting, contrast, tone, texture, and shape are forefront in my mind when I shoot, and I constantly search for ways to communicate depth and movement on the photograph’s two-dimensional surface.
